Interested in becoming bi-craftual? In this class, you’ll learn some basic crochet stitches and techniques, aimed specifically at knitters. You’l see how some of your knitting skills can help you get ahead with this fun craft, and how some of them might hold you back. You’ll learn the chain stitch—crochet’s version of casting on—as well as single crochet, double crochet, and slip stitch, and understand how to read crochet patterns and instructions. Then you’ll get started on your very first project: a lacy scarf you can complete with a single skein of yarn. Yes! You can jump straight into lace with crochet!

In this class, aimed specifically at knitters who are learning to crochet, you’ll learn a few more basic crochet stitches, plus how to crochet into a ring and change yarn colors. Then we’ll make a few different styles of granny squares—both traditional and modern—and you'll learn how to sew squares together. By the end of class, you’ll be able to create any of the many contemporary patterns that have been popping up lately, including afghans, bags, and sweaters, all based on the humble granny square. |
